KATİPLER KONAĞI, ÇORUM

DSC03198This Çorum restaurant is housed in a delightfully decorated restored Ottoman house with original fireplaces and foor-wide floorboards.

In Turkey it’s common for tourist brochures to describe mouth-watering local delicacies that are never available in any of the restaurants. Here, however, you can enjoy such rare treats as çatalaşı çorbası, a tasty lentil broth with barley; keşkek, shreds of lamb on a mashed wheat paste; and gül baklava, circular pastries stuffed with walnuts.

There’s no alcohol, but my three-course dinner cost less than a single main course in most tourist towns.
