ALADAĞLAR NATIONAL PARK

Aladaglar1Despite its proximity to Cappadocia, the mountainous Aladağlar National Park in the Toros range receives relatively few foreign tourists, probably because it's tough to get to without private transport.

Day-trippers visit the park to picnic by the many waterfalls. But really this is wonderful trekking country that sometimes gets overlooked in the rush to get to the Kaçkars. It's also perfect for mountaineers with the highest peak being Demirkazık Dağı (3756m).

Attempts to develop whitewater-rafting on the Zamantı river have had mixed results although the scenery along the river is absolutely spectacular.

Sleeping

It's possible to camp in the national park. Alternatively the basic Şafak Pansiyon (tel: 0388-724 7039) offers half-board arrangements in the village of Çukurdağ, 4km from Çamardı. The owners should also be able to help with finding a guide.

Aladağlar Camping (tel: 0534-201 8995) in Çukurdağ offers a couple of cabins and a bungalow as well as tent pitches. Aladaglar.001Yes, that's me front right...

Transport info

If you don't have your own transport you can theoretically get close to the park on a dolmuş from Niğde to Çamardı.
