VURAL APART HOTEL, KARAHAYIT

Wanting to spend a night in Karahayıt, I was directed to this family-run apart-hotel by a friend who recommended the private thermal baths in the apartments which mean that you can take advantage to the village's main attraction without having to pay through the nose at a luxury hotel or swim in a public pool.

This is a place where most guests will be intending to stay more than one night and the suites are quite sizeable - mine had a large sitting room with a small kitchenette, a bedroom with one double and one single bed in it and the bathroom which was big enough to have a deep pool to one side.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment would be the kitchenette which has no method for cooking, not yet for boiling water, not so much as a kettle. Nor does it come equipped with any crockery or cutlery, rendering it basically useless unless you travel with all your household goods. There was a large fridge but it didn't have so much as a bottle of water in it.

Wifi worked well in my room which I gather can be a problem in some places about town. The large TV had no foreign-language programming which shouldn't come as much of a surprise in a place whose priority clientele is domestic.

The road to the apartotel is only partially paved so coming by car is best.

Thumbs up: Piping hot thermal water in your own bathroom, comfortable sitting area

Thumbs down: Lack of any means to do any cooking
