limaniOnce upon a time the Bakır Hotel was a fading relic in a glorious waterside location overlooking Çanakkale harbour. Now it has been reincarnated as the lovely Limani Otel and rarely was a change so dramatic.

The Limani boasts extremely pretty, rather feminine rooms with chinzy curtains and turquoise-backed chairs standing out against crisp white bed linen. It's one of those hotels that manages to fit everything in perfectly even in quite small spaces. There are wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, mini-bars hidden in cupboards, a-c (not well positioned unfortunately) and tables to work at right by the window where you can watch the busy comings and goings in the harbour.

Bathrooms are small, with showers rather than tubs.

The ground-floor lobby has places to sit and a big table to work at, with Internet for guest use. On the sea side there's also a restaurant called Cafe du Port with a book-sized menu of Turkish and international favourites (the chicken schnitzel was particularly good). An open-buffet breakfast with lots of choices is also served here.

Thumbs up: Lovely decor, well-equipped rooms, very comfortable beds

Thumbs down: Few power sockets - on my last visit I was unable to get a steady Internet connection either in my room or in the lobby
