kral1In a great location in the centre of Erzurum perfect for sightseeing and eating out, the Kral (King) is a comfortable mid-range hotel whose most obvious drawback for some visitors would be that it has to be accessed up a flight of stairs to the first floor.

There the reception is surprisingly uninspiring, reversing the usual tendency to invest a lot in its appearance, sometimes at the cost of investing in the actual rooms.

In the Kral the rooms are very comfortable and well designed with decor that is modern but without being flashy; the prints of drawings by Bedri Rahmi Eyuboğlu, a Black Sea boy from Görele, and his wife Eren are an especially nice touch.

For the time being TVs are of the bulky old sort and there's no minibar. The bathrooms, on the other hand, are appealing and mostly have tubs although these are individually built and perhaps better to look at than to use.

Given the position some street noise is inevitable.

Thumbs up: Attractive and sensible decor, central location

Thumbs down: Uninspiring breakfast served in lobby (I visited in winter - it might be better in summer)
