doruk1In a great location overlooking the Fethiye Marina, the Doruk is one of a group of four long-lived hotels that have been moving slowly more upmarket. Externally the building is nothing to write home about but internally it boasts lots of open space and a light, cheerful decor that adds to the feeling of capaciousness.

Bedrooms are comfortable and furnished in a simple style that, while rather dated, works fairly well. There's decent air-con and smallish wall-mounted TVs with limited English programming. Bathrooms are smallish and with showers rather than tubs and a limited range of toiletries. The minibar is well stocked with some alcohol as well as soft drinks, chocolate etc - an irritating notice requests that guests don't put their own food and drink in it.

The ground-floor is the real winner here. The lobby offers a comfortable sitting area with books, magazines, maps and a larger television. It opens straight into the sizeable breakfast room which itself opens onto the small pool round which the recliners are lined up. The wide choice of breakfast items invites guests to linger by the pool.

The best rooms are those looking straight onto the bay although the rooms to one side also offer partial sea views from the balconies - there's a little road noise but nothing too terrible.

Thumbs up: The pool and breakfast area, handy town-centre location

Thumbs down: Upfront payment request, unnecessary notices prohibiting use of fridge for own items
