afasArriving in Afyon late one evening the As Hotel quickly caught my eye because of the fountains of white lights cascading down in front of it.

Given its position on the main road round town I wasn't hopeful of a quiet night and asked for a room at the back. At first sight the purpose-designed single room had the usual fairly cell-like aspect to it. I have to say, however, that I slept like a log on the comfortable mattress with good air-con close at hand.

The wifi also worked a treat and the minibar was actually stocked which is less common than you might assume.

The bathroom was tiny but had been renovated recently so was attractive to look at and in good working order.

In the morning I thought the breakfast in the ground-floor dining room much better than the rather ordinary decor might have indicated. In the sitting area in the lobby happy customers were perusing newspapers laid out on a backlit alabaster table.

All in all, then, if you're after a mid-priced hotel within reasonably easy reach of the town centre the As just might fit the bill nicely.

Thumbs up: Everything in good working order, decent breakfast

Thumbs down: Front rooms could be noisy
