aypark2The high-rise Aydın Park in Aydın used to be in an unbeatably convenient location opposite the otogar but since that was relocated beyond the city limits its attractions have lessened considerably, especially since the building is no great beauty.

That said, the rooms here are large and while my stay got off to a few house-keeping hiccoughs once they had been resolved my room was wonderfully comfortable bar the slight incovenience of having to sit on the bed at an angle to view the TV built into the wall.

Most rooms seem to come with a double bed plus a single making them perfect for families although much of the clientele seems to be business travellers. Most also have a three-piece suite; in the first room I was given a two-piece seemed to have had a settee from another suite added to it but in the second room it all matched perfectly.

The bathrooms are relatively small but come with excellent power showers.

The room also had a minibar with standard prices although the listed prices for laundry seemed very steep. I took exception, too, to the sides forbidding guests to bring in food or drink, which is presumably why the bathrooms came with no toothmugs.

Breakfast is a struly splendid spread served in a low-ceilinged fist-floor breakfast room that turns into a restaurant at night (hence the ban on own provisions). There's also a shop on the ground floor which has two inviting sitting areas provided you don't mind the somewhat eclectic collection of decorative items. aypark4

In some ways service was up to the hotel's claimed four stars but in other ways it certainly wasn't. They were unable to provide a map of the city or provide much in the way of tourist info, confirming that the clientele is almost entirely local.

Thumbs up: Spacious, comfortable rooms; excellent breakfasts; parking out front

Thumbs down: My stay was clouded by some service issues although some staff very helpful
