FIRTINA BUTİK HOTEL, OSMANELİ

firtosConverted out of what was once the 19th-century Hükümet Konağı (Government House), the Fırtına Butik Hotel in Osmaneli is a surprisingly inviting option for a town that is still not little known. Less than an hour away from Bilecik in a dolmuş that runs every 30 minutes in the day, it might make a good alternative if you'd rather stay in a largely Ottoman town rather than in a concrete jungle.

This being an ex-government building, there are lots of long corridors but the bedrooms turn out to be spacious and high-ceilinged and designed in a style that is relatively restrained. Light sleepers might not want to sleep at the front as it faces onto the mosque across a courtyard. In spring and early summer the sound of storks nesting on the roof will be a bonus for some.

The breakfast and sitting areas on the ground floor look fairly simple but I have not yet had the chance to stay and see how well they work.firos2Corridor ceiling rose

Thumbs up: Nice conversion of an old building in a town full of charecter. Prices currently moderate for what's on offer

Thumbs down: Stone steps up to entrance and no lift to rooms on upper floor
