GRAND 23 HOTEL, ELAZIĞ

grand23At the quieter eastern end of Hürriyet Caddesi, the extension of the Elazığ main drag, the Hotel Grand 23 is a new addition to the city's offerings and its rooms have the advantage of newness and modernity about them. Furnishings are fairly simple and mostly offered in shades of brown and cream.

In mine the posh-looking curtains didn't pull right across the window but there was a fridge, a flat-screen TV and decent air-con to go with a nicely firm mattress and a goodish reading light. The wi-fi also worked well despite being operated on a rather complex centrally-controlled system.

My bathroom had a biggish shower and was perfectly clean and functional.

Breakfast offered plenty of choice including some of the grapes for which this area is famous.

One major snag is that the lobby is up two flights of stairs, making this a hotel that's off-limits to the disabled. The lifts, once you reach them, are the height of shiny, techy modernity.

There's a small, leather-clad lounge attached to reception where the breakfast room lurks to the rear.

Thumbs up: Fairly quiet location, yet just minutes' walk from the centre.

Thumbs down: Stairs up to reception
