One of my very favourite Selçuk pensions, the lovely little Homeros is tucked away in the historic back streets on the side of town closest to Ephesus. The building itself is nothing to write home about but why I love this place so much is that the decor is entirely unique, the handiwork of owner, Derviş Köse, an enthusiastic carpenter who scours the flea market in İzmir for interesting pieces that he can reuse in his guestrooms.
The pension spills across the street with the rooms with private bathrooms in the second building.
Breakfast is taken on the top floor of the original building in a homely bar-dining room presided over aplomb by Derviş' sister Şaziye and their mother. Here, you can also eat a tasty home-cooked supper if you order it in the morning.
Thumbs up: Great location, attractively decorated rooms, family atmosphere
Thumbs down: Since this is a pension you shouldn't expect the posh extras of the town's few hotels
