The recent restoration of the Germiyan neighbourhood of Kütahya included the creation of a seven-room hotel inside the huge and elegant Ispartalılar Konağı. The spacious rooms are decorated in a style that celebrates bindallı, the heavy gold embroidery on maroon velvet once favoured for Ottoman wedding dresses. Authenticity means bathrooms are housed inside cupboards with quite a steep step to get into them.
Reception and the breakfast room are in the first of two buildings that make up the hotel. That separation makes for a slightly impersonal feel although the rooms are extremely comfortable and fairly quiet given their city-centre location.
Immediately across the road a restaurant is housed in another restored house. Just up the road a third accommodates the Kent Müzesi.
Thumbs up: Perfect location, comfortable beds, attractive decor
Thumbs down: Bathrooms tricky for less mobile guests
