mercan1This little hotel in the back streets near Adana's central Beşocak Meydanı has to be one of the best bargains to be found in the region.

Externally extremely stylish in an area where that is not usually the adjective that most readily comes to mind, the Mercan looks quite small but turns out to be much bigger once you get inside.

My room on the first floor was extremely well designed. The stylishness of the lobby didn't continue in the decor but  everything was in good working order, and there was the great plus of a kettle beside the bed for tea or coffee as well as a small free bottle of water.

The TV screen was tiny but managed to show AlJazeera, and the air-con worked better than in much more expensive hotels.

The ground-floor lobby with its colourful leather sofas is a great place to relax over a glass of tea. And the popular Öz Asmaaltı kebab restaurant is more or less across the road. mercan2

A simple but perfectly adequate breakfast is served in a second-floor dining room.

Thumbs up: Excellent value for money

Thumbs down: Surrounding area not very attractive, no lift
