ridvan2The closure of the Ertan Hotel right beside it has left the two-star Rıdvan Otel in Çeşme in a very strong position as regards pricing. Its location is wonderful, just steps away from the waterfront, the main shopping street and the castle, and with lots of places to eat and drink all around it. The hotel, too, is smart enough although its star rating says everything about its amenities - namely that there are few of them and certainly not enough to justify the sort of prices it can easily get away with in high season.

My room was reasonably sized and had a small balcony with a side sea and castle view. The wifi was good. Ditto the reading lights. Otherwise, there was a small TV, plenty of storage space and a desk, and that was about it. It was conspicuously short on electric sockets as a result of its age. The insulation was great - even on the first floor I wasn't disturbed by noise from the street outside.

The bathroom was small and although it had a decent supply of toiletries had only a small shower cabin with an inconvenient step up. ridvan1

Breakfast is served in a small dining room and annexe on the mezzanine above the reception. It was wholly inadequate for the price of the room - I even had trouble getting a slice of cucumber one hour before service was due to end. For TL150 I would have expected a great deal more than the bare basics without even a toaster, and all the jam etc in little packets.

There's a ground-floor sitting area beside the reception. This has a disabled ramp but the lift is so small I preferred to walk up rather than squeeze in with the man showing me to my room.

Thumbs up: Great location, very handy for the ferries to Chio, comfortable rooms.

Thumbs down: Grossly overpriced - I reckoned my room was worth half what I paid for it. Everything else follows from that.
