TUNA HOTEL, EDİRNE

tuna1On Edirne's unofficial hotel street, AKA Maarif Caddesi, the Tuna is a pleasing if fairly simple place to stay with rooms spread across two buildings separated by a breakfast courtyard. They feature unexpected burgundy wallpaper against which the woolly bed covers in a variety of colours look rather nice. There's flat-screen TV and air-con although bathrooms are inevitably quite small.

Unfortunately Maarif Caddesi picks up a lot of noise from surrounding bars and restaurants, and it goes on into the early hours even midweek which could be a problem for light sleepers. In winter the pleasant open-buffet breakfast is in a downstairs restaurant where every sound seems to echo. On the ground-floor there's  small comfortable sitting area equipped with a few books and maps.

If you want to explore Edirne's historic back streets with their many old wooden houses this makes a very convenient base.

Thumbs up: Good, central location, perfect for restaurants etc; pleasant decor

Thumbs down: Noise from surrounding bars and restaurants
