ilbeyRight on Elazığ high street, this smart hotel veers towards bling in its decor but is actually extremely comfortable and well equipped.

My fourth-floor room came with a partially purple colour scheme and a comfortable double bed. There was a great range of amenities including a kettle with tea, coffee and even hot chocolate on offer. The minibar was well stocked with non-alcoholic items as well as crisps and nuts for the midnight munchies.

A good-sized TV offered Al Jazeera International. The air con worked well although the wi-fi was a little iffy. When I complained I was immediately given another room where it worked perfectly in an example of great service, a feature of the hotel.

The bathroom was pretty small but came with an impressive range of toiletries and lots of hot water.

Elazığ doesn't really do views but the top floor dining room is certainly light, airy and attractive - and the morning breakfast spread was fit for a sultan. At night it hosts a full a la carte restaurant.

Personally, I found the lobby area rather soulless and the lifts a bit small for comfort but those are petty niggles.

Thumbs up: Good central location, well-designed rooms if you're not too hung up on minimalism, fine breakfasts

Thumbs down: Little street noise from front rooms while those at back lack views
