villajuliaAlthough most of the places I describe on this site can be booked casually, I'm making an exception for the marvellous Villa Julia in Söğüt, near Bozburun where I once had one of the most memorable stays of my life.

It's not that there was any great luxury on offer. Instead there was just wonderful, simple elegance in an utterly remote location right on a beach at the end of the Bozburun branch of the Reşadiye Peninsula, home to some of Turkey's most spectacular scenery. I remember my bedroom as a symphony of white with a balcony that looked out over a lapis-lazuli sea and towering mountains through a fringe of glorious bougainvillea.

The large patio area offers a small library and a long table for communal carousing. There's also a small pool surrounded by loungers.

If you're lucky the owners' 19th-century topsail schooner Rhea which they found and restored will be moored in front of the villa.

Villa Julia is rented out in its entirety rather than by the room.

Thumbs up: Fantastic location provided you don't want a lot of organised entertainment

Thumbs down: Very remote if you do want organised entertainment
