Erenköy is a smart residential neighbourhood on the Asian side of İstanbul between Göztepe and Suadiye. Much of its architecture is relentlessly modern but there are a few old wood-faced mansions just about hanging on. There’s also a fine old fountain designed to serve customers of the railway in 1921 but now down the road from the station.

Should you be in the area, Ethem Efendi Kahvaltı (Tel: 0541-229 5282) is an appealing place for a Sunday brunch. It’s at Ethem Efendi Caddesi No 50.
