White waters of the south

On the road south from Midyat to Nusaybin on the Syrian border, a succession of cute little restaurants have been built on and around a river at Beyazsu. Eating at any of them is a delight, with the sound of the fast-flowing water providing a pleasing backdrop; if you’re lucky you’ll find freshwater crabs lining up to watch you eating as well.

It’s a great place to break the journey to Nusaybin. The one drawback is that routine bane of modern Turkish life – discarded litter everywhere.

Transport info

Dolmuşes from Midyat to Nusaybin pass through Beyazsu. It wouldn’t be wise to rely on the last one back in case it arrives full.

If you come by private car you might like to take a look at the curious nearby village of Kalecik too.
