The Van seaside

Driving between Van and Akdamar you might want to pause in Edremit, the decidedly scruffy “beach resort” on the outskirts of Van. Hopefully money will eventually be found to tidy it up and turn it into the drawcard it really ought to be.
In the meantime, if you don’t mind the broken pavements and lopsided lampposts it’s a good place to watch the sun dip down into the lake, and an even better place to sit down for a supper of really excellent meatballs sandwiched inside half a loaf of bread and served with all the trimmings.
Be careful not to confuse this Edremit with the other Edremit over on the Aegean coast near Assos.
