In the hills above Silifke you can visit the hamlet of Cambazlı, where the remains of a vast, two-storied Byzantine church dating back to the early 6th century stand forgotten on the outskirts of the village of Yeğenli, with several tombs with temple-like facades right at its heart. In his book Silifke and Environs, Celal Taşkırın argued that there must have been a major settlement on this site that was linked by a paved road to Corycus (Kızkalesi).Cambazliint

The scenery around here still has a wonderful rusticity. You really will feel that you have managed to get away from it all.

This is a visit best made with a private car or a taxi hired in Silifke and with the total fare including waiting time agreed in advance.

Follow the signs from Ura and you should be able to make a loop that brings you back out on the road from Uzuncaburç to Silifke without any backtracking.Cambazlitomb
