Population: 6,000-20,000
The dusty little town of Kınık between Patara and Fethiye lives for market gardening rather than tourism. Look down on it from on high and you’ll see nothing but a sea of plastic and glass used to grow tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, cucumbers and other vegetables.
In winter the population may be around 6,000 but at harvest time in the autumn it swells to more like 20,000 as seasonal workers flood in.
The reason you will come to Kınık is to visit the ruins of Xanthos, one km uphill from the town centre, and the remains of the Letoon, the main religious complex of the Lycians, just down the road in Kumluova.
Transport info
There are regular minibuses from Kaş, Kalkan, Patara and Fethiye to Kınık.
Kınık has no official taxis to run you to the Letoon although someone in the bus station will probably be happy to come to an unofficial arrangement with you.
