“Gassy Lake”                       Population: 2.500

Due north of Afyon, Gazlıgöl is a small spa resort with a multitude of hotels to suit all pockets particularly deep ones.

One of the hamams is said to date back to Roman times (it only admits men) but, that curiosity aside, it has to be said that this is not a pretty place. Unless you are especially keen on bathing in thermal water you’re probably better of staying in Afyon.

Transport info

Frequent minibuses to Gazlıgöl leave Afyon‘s remote Köy Garaj and trundle through the town centre before heading north; you can pick them up at the Tren İstasyon Kavsağı (train station junction) which saves trekking out to the terminal.

If you don’t have your own car Gazlıgöl makes a possible alternative base for exploring the Phrygian Valley. Don’t expect the taxi drivers to offer particularly good rates though.
