Town of lovely old balconies Population: 41,000
Market day: Wednesday
Forty km east of Burdur, Bucak is the sort of small town you’re only likely to visit if you want to get to the ruins of the Psidian site at Kremna (Çamlık).
With time on your hands you might want to take a turn around the back streets where you’ll discover that this was once a place of rustic housing, with elaborately carved wooden balconies, sometimes one above the other, the norm. Today, of course, most people have migrated to modern apartments and abandoned the old long houses.
On the hillside you’ll see the remains of Bucak Kalesi, harshly restored as is so often the case.
Transport info
Since Bucak is on the main road from Burdur to Antalya buses run every 20 minutes or so. The otogar is an inconvenient 3km west of the town centre but servis buses run passengers into the centre.
There’s no transport to Kremna (13km) but taxi drivers know the way.
