Ten km east of Silifke, Atakent is something of a concrete jungle that just happens to overlook a rather nice swathe of sand. It won’t suit those who like their holiday bases to be picturesque and stuffed with attractions but at least one good friend has enjoyed a beach break here. And the attractions of both Silifke and the Kızkalesi area are all within easy minibus reach.

This is a predominantly Turkish holiday area so the facilities tend to suit Turkish family tastes. Recently there are signs of an attempt to move things a little more upmarket with some inviting new cafes overlooking the rocks at the eastern end of town.

Sleeping

There are lots of hotels and pensions to suit all budgets here. Except during Turkish school holidays (mid-June to early September) you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a room.

Transport info

Frequent local minibuses link Atakent with Silifke. Almost as frequent but slightly larger buses link it to Kızkalesi and from there to the Mersin area.
