Dumlupınar is the site of the last and most decisive battle of the Turkish War of Independence that took place between 26 and 30 August 1922. Despite being outgunned and outmanned it was here that the Turks, led by Mustafa Kemal (later Atatürk), were able to drive back the Greeks who had invaded Western Anatolia in the aftermath of the First World War.

The victory is commemorated every year on 30 August (Zafer Bayramı, Victory Holiday).

There is a monument and small museum on site.
