“Grape/Green Grape” village                                    Population: 2,500

Festival: Mushroom Festival – April

Market day: Friday

Inland from Fethiye, Üzümlü is a pretty little village backed by pine forest and mountains that has acquired a higher profile as settlers who want something less modern than Fethiye itself started to move in. Many old stone houses with wooden balconies still line the high street, some of them now housing pleasant restaurants and cafes. The newer concrete “villas” are mainly concentrated at the back of the village.

Üzümlü is known for its weaving (dastar) and for the rare morel mushrooms (kuzu göbeği) that grow on the hillside and are celebrated with a weekend-long festival every April (think mushroom soup, mushroom-filled gözleme and folk dancing with nothing to do with mushrooms).

The ruins of ancient Kadyanda are within longish walking distance of the high street although it’s a steep climb so you might like to take a taxi up and walk back down.
