If you’re in search of a good choice of affordable cafes, restaurants, shops and nightclubs then you should hop on the Metro and head straight for Kızılay (Red Crescent), the district due south of Ulus and Opera which has Ankara’s youngest, coolest vibe.

Architecturally, Kızılay is a complete mess – this is certainly not somewhere to come in search of history or sightseeing opportunities. Its cheery, pedestrianised streets do, however, make a pleasant contrast with the sometimes dingy offerings of Ulus and the more expensive choices of Kavalıdere.

Sleeping

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay close to decent eating and nightlife options then Kızılay might make a good choice. Hotels are not particularly cheap though. The best also get booked up well ahead of time.

Transport info

Not least of the great things about Kızılay is that it is on the Ankara Metro which makes it easy for visitors with little Turkish to reach.
