“Quite Strange”

Old name: Gyroplis

Once a sleepy little fishing village and one of the few Bosphorus settlements that really deserved that romantic title right into the 21st century, Garipçe looks set to be altered out of all recognition by the arrival of the Third Bosphorus Bridge (Yavuz Sultan Selim Köprüsü) which now stretches across to Poyrazköy on the Asian shore.

The “City of Vultures” used to be home to a handful of houses, a cluster of fish restaurants and the remains of a castle dating back to 1778. If previous experience is anything to go by it will soon be home to yet more urban sprawl.
