Lost in the mountains Population: 21,100
Four km from the main Kars-Erzurum road, the mountain town of Kağızman is livelier than you might expect, with a hotel and its own local newspaper, Gözlem. Most of the buildings are relentlessly modern; just a handful survive from the days of the Russian occupation (1878-1918). You come here to see the stunning surrounding scenery and to visit some little known historic monuments lurking in nearby villages.

Transport info
Minibuses to Kağızman leave from the central Eski Garaj in Kars.
Bigger buses to Kağızman leave Iğdır roughly every two hours. There are also regular buses from Erzurum.
Local taxi drivers will run you to the villages but ideally you need a 4WD vehicle, especially for Camuşlu.
